Representatives of the three main parties gave evidence to the Speaker’s Conference on representation yesterday.

The Conference has been asked to: “Consider, and make recommendations for rectifying, the disparity between the representation of women, ethnic minorities and disabled people in the House of Commons and their representation in the UK population at large”.

It may also agree to consider other associated matters, such as the representation of gay and lesbian people in the House.

Ray Collins, General Secretary of the Labour Party, Conservatives Theresa May and John Maples and Lord Rennard, Chief Executive of the Liberal Democrats, all gave evidence yesterday.
